Noun: Number

Noun :- A Noun is the name of a person, place, animal, thing, quality, action, feeling etc.

A Noun can be One or More than one in number. So, there are two numbers in English language.

  1. Singular Number
  2. Plural Number

Singular Number: A Noun that denotes one person, place or a thing – is said to be in
                              Singular number.
Plural Number:   A Noun that denotes more than person, place or a thing – is said to be
                             in Plural number.

Plural can be made in several ways :-

  • To make a Singular noun Plural we, generally, add ‘s’ to the Singular noun.
  • By adding ‘es’ to the Singular noun of the nouns ending in ‘ch’, ‘s’, ‘sh’, ‘ss’, ‘x’.
  • To make singular nouns that end with the letter ‘f’, ‘fe’ plural we change the ‘f’ or ‘fe’ to ‘ves’.
  • To make singular nouns that end with the letter ‘y’ plural we change the ‘y’ to ‘-ies’.
  • Compound nouns formed their plural by changing its key word. Some plural are irregular.
  • Some nouns do not change in the plural.

                and female sex.
 



Kinds of Gender

There are four kinds of Gender.

Masculine Gender  : the male sex                   : Man, Boy, King, Father, Sir etc.
Feminine Gender   : the female sex                 : Woman, Girl, Mother, Madam etc.
Common Gender
   : either of the two sexes    : Child, Student, Teacher, etc.
Neuter Gender      : neither of the two sexes  : Book, Chair, Pen, Computer etc.
